Shanghaiing or crimping is the practice of kidnapping people to serve as sailors by coercive techniques such as trickery, intimidation, or violence.
OK, so maybe the header is a little dramatic! We are mostly willing volunteers and we are flying, not sailing.
But on Thursday 29 December we fly out to Shanghai....Paris of the Orient, a city slightly bigger than the population of Australia - and the beginning of a grand adventure through China over three weeks.
We will take in Shanghai, Suzhou, Beijing, Pingyao, Guilin, Longsheng, the River Li and Hong Kong.
Our party of six comprises Peter, Syl, Caity and Hugh - and brother Richard and Pami.
The bags are being packed......and re-packed. Let the journey begin!
